Voting in the White Hall District - Election Day is November 5th. White Hall District residents are assigned specific polling locations based on their voter registration. Confirm your designated site on your voter registration card or by using Albemarle County’s online voter lookup tool. Polls are open from 6 AM to 7 PM - If you’re in line by 7 p.m., you’ll still be allowed to vote.
Here are the polling locations for the White Hall District:
Crozet Elementary School
Free Union Country School
Broadus Wood Elementary
Brownsville Elementary School
Western Albemarle High School
For more information, including voter requirements and registration checks, visit Albemarle County’s voting information page. Also, before going to your polling place, take a minute to study the full sample ballot so you can be an informed voter in all of the races and the proposed amendment to Virginia’s Constitution.
Daylight Savings - Daylight Saving Time (DST) in the U.S. ends on the first Sunday in November. This year, clocks "fall back" one hour on Sunday, November 5th, at 2:00 AM. Standard practice is to adjust your clocks before you go to bed. While I’ll gladly take the extra hour of sleep, I have a feeling my 4-year-old won’t be as enthusiastic.
The idea of adjusting clocks to save daylight traces back to Benjamin Franklin, who humorously suggested in 1784 that Parisians could save candle wax by rising earlier with the sun. Modern DST was first implemented by Germany during World War I as an energy-saving measure, and the U.S. adopted it shortly after.
Open For Business - Fallen Tree Vineyard opened its doors on October 12th, bringing a new option to the Crozet wine scene. Located at 4593 Clark Road, the vineyard is open Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more details, visit fallentreevineyard.com.

On The Lighter Side
Claudius Crozet, a former colonel in Napoleon’s army and an instructor at West Point, also constructed the Blue Ridge Tunnel. He went on to become one of the founders and the first president of which college? |
