Crozet Volunteer Fire Department - The Crozet Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) launched a brand-new website: crozetfire.org. Check it out to learn about their history, mission, and how you can get involved.

Speaking of involvement, CVFD is hosting a Volunteer Interest Meeting on Tuesday, February 11th at 7:30 PM at the firehouse. Not interested in fighting fires? No problem! They need help in all kinds of support roles, from admin to community outreach.

Volunteerism is what keeps Crozet strong, and it’s up to each generation to keep it going. Whether you’re a longtime local or new to the area, this is your chance to make a difference.

Crozet Small Business Collaborative Meeting – The Crozet Small Business Collaborative will hold its next meeting on Monday, Feb. 10, from 9–10 AM at Restoration at Old Trail. This community-led networking group brings together local business owners to share insights, learn from one another, and build connections. Whether you're an established entrepreneur or just starting out, all are welcome to join.

NASA Tracking Asteroid with Small Chance of Earth Impact in 2032 - NASA is monitoring a near-Earth asteroid, 2024YR4, which has a 1.6% chance of impacting Earth on Dec. 22, 2032—the highest probability of any known moderately sized asteroid. Measuring an estimated 130 to 300 feet wide, it could cause significant regional damage but wouldn’t pose a global threat.

2024YR4 will be observable until April 2025 as it moves away from Earth, remaining out of view from ground based telescopes until 2028. This limited observation window could impact any potential mitigation efforts. Fortunately, NASA successfully tested kinetic redirection of a similar sized asteroid in 2022 with the DART mission, in which Crozet’s Dr. Mallory DeCoster played a key role. A similar mitigation strategy could be considered for 2024YR4.
