*** OUR INTERVIEWS WITH DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES FOR SUPERVISOR OF THE JACK JOUETT DISTRICT ***

Sally Duncan (D) & Dave Shreve (D) are in a primary race for Supervisor of the Jack Jouett district

On June 17th, voters will choose the Democratic nominee for Supervisor of the Jack Jouett magisterial district and likely successor to Diantha McKeel.

Every single vote will matter:  the last time Albemarle County held a local primary race, the winner was determined by a mere 139 votes (Bea LaPisto Kirtley defeated Jerrod Smith for the Rivanna district Supervisor seat in 2019).

Crozet United sat down with both candidates to learn more about their backgrounds, platforms, and perspectives on important local issues.

Note: Crozet is in the White Hall magisterial district and represented by Supervisor Ann Mallek. However, the Supervisor of the Jack Jouett district also gets a vote on all major issues effecting Crozet. While Crozet residents will not get to cast a ballot in this race, they may support any candidate’s campaign with financial donations, thru social media, or door knocking.

Supervisors Poised to Increase Real Estate Tax by 10% - Tonight, the Board of Supervisors is holding a public hearing to decide whether to increase this year’s effective real estate tax rate by 9.96%. The effective rate takes into account the 5.1% increase in this year’s average real estate assessment.

The County’s effective real estate tax rate has increased by 40% over the last four years.

Penelope Matallana and Jane Angelhart are Guest Artists for May 2025 – Crozet Artisan Depot welcomes painter Penelope Matallana of Staunton and ceramic artist Jane Angelhart of Charlottesville as Guest Artists for May 2025.

Penelope Matallana paints in oil, watercolor, and acrylics, capturing the lively spirit of farms, fields, gardens, lakes, rivers, forests, and city streets. She works en plein air whenever possible, striving to finish paintings on-site to preserve their fresh, spontaneous energy — though occasionally she completes them in her studio when needed. Her show, “A Moment in Time,” celebrates fleeting beauty.

Jane Angelhart is a versatile artist known for her curiosity and love of experimentation. Primarily trained in painting, she has expanded into ceramics, creating whimsical pottery that reflects her playful spirit. Jane also teaches watercolor workshops nationwide, judges art shows, and leads Mishima workshops. She maintains both a painting and a ceramic studio in her home. Her show is titled “Hippos and Other Nonsense.”

New Crozet Pop-Up Business: Hello Again Consignment - Local resident Erica Thomas has launched Hello Again Consignment, a new business focused on curating a selection of women’s clothing and accessories and bringing more sustainable, stylish secondhand shopping to the heart of Crozet.

Hello Again Consignment will hold its first pop-up event Saturday, May 3, from 11:00 - 4:00 PM at Creative Framing & Art Box on Crozet Avenue.

Erica, who also co-founded the Crozet Small Business Collaborative, is passionate about supporting the Crozet business community and conscious fashion. “I started Hello Again to make secondhand shopping more fun and accessible for my friends and neighbors who are looking for a local option for high quality women’s wear.”

Hello Again collaborates with local partners like Green Olive Tree and Bat Loves Vintage. Consignors can drop-off their items during pop-up events or schedule a “Porch Pickup”.
