This Week In Crozet (3/26/25)
March 27th - April 2nd
Around Town
One Way Crozet? Albemarle County will review the latest Crozet traffic study at its meeting on 4/1/25, including a consultant’s proposal to relieve our rush hour congestion: more one-way roads.
“We are already in the process of changing the intersection at The Square to allow right turns only,” reads the report. “Applying the same concept to Crozet’s three high volume intersections with Route 250 is the most cost-effective solution to alleviate the traffic backups in the morning and afternoon peak periods.”
As shown in the graphic below, Rockfish Gap Turnpike would become a one-way road from Owensville Road for seven miles until it reaches the I-64 interchange.
“Converting Route 250’s current eastbound lane into a second westbound lane will double its capacity and eliminate the need for expensive roundabouts in the Crozet development area,” reads the report.
The project’s working title is “Right this Way Crozet!” because it would phase out the left hand turns onto Route 250 from Three Notch’d Road (Route 240 at the trestle), Crozet Avenue, Old Trail, and Yancey Mills by summer 2026.
“Across the country, ‘clockwise traffic movements’ are gaining popularity in localities that grew too fast and now can’t afford the supporting transportation infrastructure,” the consultant noted.
“Without a detailed capital investment plan to build the infrastructure needed to support its ambitious housing goals, Albemarle County’s problems will only get worse.”

One-way roads will create a “clockwise traffic movement” and potentially relieve Crozet’s rush hour congestion.

Crozet Artisan Depot Welcomes Guest Artists for April 2025 – Crozet Artisan Depot welcomes jeweler Friederike Dussaud-Garnier of Crozet and painter Mae Stoll of Staunton as our Guest Artists for April 2025. The Guest Artists shows will run from April 1 until April 30.
Meet both Friederike and Mae on Saturday April 19th from 11 AM-1 PM.
Friederike (Rika) Dussaud-Garnier’s show is titled “Playful Colors and Shapes”. Rika started making jewelry in 2023. Her process is experimental and playful, often leading to unexpected results. Rika started with lost wax casting in sterling silver, using techniques like pouring wax into water, molding natural objects, and casting lace. Later Rika discovered the magic of pencils on metal for vibrant color for an enamel-like effect.
Mae Stoll is a self-taught artist who primarily works in acrylics and pastels. Mae mostly paints semi-impressionistic landscapes, but she is often lured by other subject matter and styles. This show “Recent Works” will display her wide range of styles and subject matter. Mae loves moving color around with a brush and the powdery subtlety of soft pastels.

April Fools' Day began in 1582 when France switched to the Gregorian calendar, changing the first day of the New Year from April 1st to January 1st. Those who continued to celebrate the New Year at the spring equinox were called "April Fools".Three of the pranks listed below have been actually pulled off. Which one hasn't? |
