Our Town

Rezoning Proposals for Mobile Home Parks Signal a Trend in Albemarle County - Last week we reported on Beaver Hill Village’s (just north of Rt 240, across from the Highlands and Wickham Pond neighborhoods) upcoming rezoning proposal. After our newsletter published, the item was removed from the agenda but it remains active and is being scheduled for an upcoming CCAC meeting before moving on to public hearings before the Planning Commission and Board.

Interestingly, a similar proposal has come forward in the Samuel Miller District (not in Crozet) to rezone 50 acres of Rural Area land to an R-4 density. The proposed mobile home park, named Chestnut Grove, is scheduled to be heard by the Planning Commission in December.

The growing trend of trying to rezone land outside of the County’s designated growth areas to create higher-density affordable housing is sparking energetic discussions about the validity of the County’s comprehensive growth plan (currently being revised).

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library - Did you know that Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is available for kids in the Crozet area? This wonderful program provides free books to children from birth to age five, mailed directly to their homes every month. It’s a great way to inspire a love of reading early on and build up a home library. If you have little ones and want to sign up, head to the Imagination Library website for more details and get them started on their reading journey!

Dept of Forestry Needs Some Help - The Virginia Department of Forestry is seeking help to replant oak, walnut, and chestnut trees. They are asking residents to gather uncracked acorns, walnuts, and chestnuts from healthy trees and drop them off at any department office by Oct. 15. Donations should be sorted by species and placed in paper bags or cardboard boxes, labeled with the species and the collection date and location. If unsure of the species, including a leaf is helpful.

Crozet United is here not only to keep you informed, but it is also your platform to celebrate Crozet and the people in it.

Share your good news—like team victories, community cleanups, or any positive updates—with us. Small or big we want to share the good things happening around town.
