Our Town

Tail of Two Trails - Waynesboro is charging ahead with their Rockfish Gateway Trail, armed with a $950,000 federal grant and engineers already working on designs. Their ambitious 3.5-mile connection from Sunset Park to the Blue Ridge Tunnel includes two tunnels—one under active C&O Railroad tracks—with a $15 million price tag. Sounds really cool.

Albemarle also has a planned Three Notch'd Trail, which aims to connect Charlottesville to Afton, however Three Notch’d Trail is still in early stages. A RFP for consultants is expected in April 2025, followed by a two-year feasibility study to finalize the route and construction plans.

It would be great to see Waynesboro compete their Rockfish Gateway Trail and hopefully the consultant can figure out how to navigate the Three Notch’d Trail along 250 and the Afton Mountains.

Delegate Amy Laufer Announces Re-election Campaign - Delegate Amy Laufer is throwing her hat in the ring again for Virginia's 55th House District, which covers most of Albemarle County (including Crozet) and parts of Louisa and Nelson Counties. After a strong win in 2023 where she raised nearly $700K, Laufer's ready for another round. While she's currently running unopposed, stay tuned – this is typically when candidates start making their moves.

If you have questions about her positions you can stop by her campaign field office in Crozet at 1186 Crozet Ave, near the Modern Barbershop or visit https://lauferfordelegate.com. This race will share the ballot with what's shaping up to be an exciting Governor's contest between Lt. Governor Winsome Sears and Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger.

On The Lighter Side

Three Notch’d Road (current day US-250), also known as Three Chopt Road due to the notches in trees along the route, was a critical colonial trade route. It connected settlements running from Richmond to the Shenandoah Valley.

What is the earliest documented reference to Three Notch’d Road?
