This Week In Crozet (3/12/25)
March 13th - 19th
Around Town
Crozet Community Association March Meeting - The Crozet Community Association (CCA) will hold its next meeting on March 13, 2025, at 7:30 PM at the Claudius Crozet Park Community Building (formerly the WPED radio building). The meeting will feature updates on local projects, community events, and the election of 2025 CCA officers.
Highlights of the agenda include:
An update from County Supervisor Ann Mallek on county news and initiatives. She will also be fielding questions about the Albemarle Budget.
Discussions on The Square improvements, the Downtown Crozet Initiative (DCI), Crozet Plaza, the Three-Notched Trail, and the Crozet growth area, led by Tim Tolson.
Progress on installing hanging flower baskets along Crozet Avenue, a project coordinated by Muff Biber, Tim Tolson, and Chelsea Powers of the Crozet Board of Trade.
Election of 2025 CCA officers, with nominations open for President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Candidates must be present at the meeting or have expressed their willingness to serve to a current officer.
Residents are encouraged to attend and participate in shaping the future of Crozet.

Critter Corner: The Allegheny Woodrat - The Wildlife Center of Virginia recently rescued an Allegheny Woodrat from the basement of a Crozet home and transferred it to a zoo in Toledo, Ohio. Here are some fun facts about this creature:
It is known to collect and store unnecessary, non-food items like bottle caps, candy wrappers, and gun cartridges. This trait, shared by some people I know, is where we get the term “pack rat”.
Including an 8” tail, it can grow up to a foot and half long (17.5 inches).
It is in major decline and listed as endangered in many states

The Allegheny Woodrat is a type of “packrat” known to collect and store various non-food items such as bottle caps, snail shells, coins, gun cartridges, feathers, and bones.

The Allegheny Woodrat that was rescued from Crozet. Now that’s verging on cute!
Public Input Sought on Albemarle County’s Proposed $642.4 Million Budget - Residents interested in the County’s proposed $642.4 million budget are encouraged to participate in upcoming public hearings. A special public hearing focused on WAHS will be held on Wednesday, April 9, at Western Albemarle High School from 5:30 - 7:30 PM.
Additionally, the Board of Supervisors will hold a countywide public hearing on the proposed budget on April 23 and a public hearing on tax rates on April 30.
Input provided earlier in the process may carry more weight as decisions are being shaped, so residents are encouraged to share their perspectives as soon as possible. For more information and to stay informed, visit here.

Concerts on the Corner kicks off on Sunday- The Crozet United Methodist church (which is not affiliated with this newsletter) is kicking off its Spring “Concerts on the Corner” series this Sunday, March 16. All concerts are at 5:00 with doors opening at 4:30. There is no cost, but there will be a love offering for the performers and the church music ministry.
The next concerts are scheduled for March 30 and April 6th.

Crozet United is here not only to keep you informed, but it is also your platform to celebrate Crozet and the people in it. Share your good news—like team victories, community cleanups, or any positive updates—with us. Small or big we want to share the good things happening around town.
