Graduation Season
What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us
To All WAHS and College Grads: It’s said that a diploma is one of the few things that can never be taken from you. Graduation is an important milestone that’s only earned from years of hard work. Congratulations!
Parents, please try to support locally-owned small businesses whenever you can this graduation season. When you shop local, your money stays in our community and makes a big difference to Crozet employees and entrepreneurs.

Our Town
Happy Anniversary Praha Bohemian Bakery and Cafe celebrated their 1 Year Anniversary last week - Congratulations!
Right Of Way Gone Wrong Does the County have a right to take private land set aside for the Eastern Avenue Connector Bridge before it has a binding contract to finally build it?
That’s one of many questions being raised by a group of concerned neighbors about a proposal that envisions using land owned by the Cory Farm and West Hall neighborhoods as the primary entrance to OakBluff, a new high-density residential development along Lickinghole Creek. (See points B, C and D in the image below.)
Neighbors say that the County’s legal “right of way” to that land is specifically limited to the construction of the Eastern Avenue Connector – a critical bridge that would link Eastern Avenue all the way to Route 250. Last year, the project’s estimated cost ballooned to $39.5M and the County demoted it to their 78th most important infrastructure priority.
Liberty Hall neighbors are also troubled by a plan to build two additional access roads through their own community: one through their common area and the other next to the neighborhood’s central playground.
Joining them are neighbors from Westlake Hills who initiated a lawsuit against Stanley Martin Homes and the developer over another contentious disputed parcel linked to the Oak Bluff rezoning request.
A public hearing by the planning commission is on the horizon. We’ll update you on future developments.
I Water That Way Now that’s how you make a PSA! Click the image below to see a water conservation video from the City of Denver’s Water Authority. Trust us, it’s worth watching all the way through.
WAHS News and Notes
Tennis
Both boys' and girls' varsity teams cleaned house against Orange and Fluvanna, losing not a single match out of 36 played — there seems to be a trend here.
Baseball
The boys smashed Orange 10-1, then dropped a game to a rough and ready Fluvanna squad. Their record on the season stands at (11-4).
Lacrosse
Varsity boys wiped out Powatan 15-1.
The girls also handled Powatan with relative ease, winning 15-8 to remain undefeated.
Soccer
The Lady Warriors outworked Charlottesville, Fluvanna, and Goochland to run their recent string of wins to 5.
The boys put together back-to-back shutouts vs. Fluvanna and Orange (11 goals to nil) to remain unbeaten (11-0).
WAHS Mountain Biking Team
Almost six hundred racers from across the state descended upon the custom team-built 3.5-mile course in the wooded areas surrounding WAHS.
The Gillespie siblings — Jude and Hazel — showed well in their respective groups (Jude with a top 10 finish for boys varsity, and Hazel coming in 2nd for girls JV).
Western's team placed 3rd overall in the statewide competition against a tough field of competitors.
Crozet United’s Warrior(s) of the Week is the WAHS Mountain Biking Community, whose collective effort over recent years by athletes, those who’ve coached them, and the families who’ve supported them culminated in an exciting race weekend at their new self-constructed home course. Congratulations to you all!
