NEW BIKING TRAIL AT WAHS The Western Albemarle High School mountain bike team has built a 3.5 mile trail around the campus that is open to the public outside of school hours. The trail map kiosk (see photo) is located in the upper parking lot and the trail has signs posted throughout.

The trail was built as a mountain biking trail though walkers and joggers are most welcome. WAHS is hosting a large bike race on Saturday, May 4th, from 9am to 5pm.  Stop by and cheer on the riders! Email [email protected] with questions.

WAHS News and Notes

Tennis

  • The girls continued their dominance this season by thrashing district rivals Albemarle and Louisa. They collectively won these contests, 17 matches to 1.

  • The boys also made easy work of Albemarle, dispatching them 9 matches to 0.

Softball

  • The Lady Warriors have won 4 out of the last 5, with their latest triumph over Harrisonburg 2-1.

Baseball

  • The boys hammered Harrisonburg 12-2. Andrew Huffmeyer was perfect at the plate (2 for 2 with 2 RBI) and on the mound (8 strikeouts over 4 innings).

Lacrosse

  • The boys rocked crosstown division 5 rival Albemarle 13-5, then took out Meridian with equal ease 12-4, improving their record to (5-3)

  • The undefeated girls varsity squad also dismantled the Patriots 19-9, then followed that win by taking out Meridian 13-5. Maggie Craytor scored 7 goals over those two games.

Soccer

  • Girls varsity rebounded from a tough loss to Albemarle earlier in the week by blanking Louisa 7-0, then avenged a late-season loss from a year ago by handling Orange 3-1. This team has heart!

  • The boys collected goals from 5 different players in a balanced 5-0 win over Orange. They remain undefeated at 11-0.

Crozet United’s Warrior(s) of the Week is senior David King and junior Thomas Heilman, who both qualified for the US Swimming Olympic Trials, which take place on June 15-23 in Indianapolis.
