WAHS News and Notes
Tennis
Girls and boys varsity both swept Liberty Christian Academy to advance to the state semi-finals.
Baseball
After a hard fought season, with many games and personal performances to be proud of, the Warriors dropped a tough one to Broadway 9-5 in the region playoff to close out their impressive season.
Lacrosse
The girls blasted Kettle Run 18-1 to advance to the region final.
The boys pulled out a 7-6 win in a white-knuckle affair over Brentsville to advance to the region final. It was senior Finn Pulich who came up with the late go-ahead score.
Both the boys and girls will face off against Meridian (of northern Virginia) for the Region title this evening.
Soccer
The boys marched into region play with confidence and it has shown through in their play, as they knocked out Allegheny 12-0 in the quarters, then delivered another shutout over Staunton in the semis. The outcome of the region championship against Turner Ashby occurred too late for this edition.
The girls took out Rockbridge in the quarters, offering up an identical outcome of 12-0. They then blanked Waynesboro in the semis 3-0. Their region championship match against Wilson Memorial occurred too late for this edition.
Track & Field
Congratulations to the girls' and boys' outdoor track teams who finished second in the region.
The boys won 5 events: 4x800m relay (Carter, Lehmensiek, Floyd, Envail), 400m open (Connor Rittenhouse, breaks school record), pole vault (Charlie Strobach), and the 110m and 300m hurdles (Anders Felts, 300m time breaks school record)
The girls won 3 events: 4X100m relay (M. Hill, J. Hill, Pearson, Shin), 200m (Carter Torrence bested her own school record), and pole vault (Raina Fitzwater). Two other Western records fell, as Maddie Hill (100m) and Jordan Henderson (300m hurdles) set new Warrior standards.
