EASTERN AVENUE UPDATE – The Board of Supervisors will meet later today to review the County’s proposed “Finding of Public Interest (FOPI)” for potentially building the Eastern Avenue Connector under a Public Private Transportation Agreement (PPTA).
The long-promised Connector is clearly in the public’s best interest, especially if it can be built for less than VDOT’s $39.5M cost estimate and within the next few years. A primary reason for using a PPTA to build it is to shift the key project risks (i.e. cost and schedule) from taxpayers to a private contractor.

Thomas Heilman Shines at Paris Olympics - Thomas Heilman gave it his all at the Paris Olympics, showcasing his incredible talent and determination. Heilman and Team USA earned a silver medal in the Men’s 4 × 100 Medley Relay! It was incredible to watch his performance on the largest stage in the world and excited for the future that lies ahead for this extraordinary athlete.
Old Trail Soccer - Registration is open for Old Trail Soccer Club. The Fall 2024 season will be 8 weeks long and run from September 14th through November 2nd. Registration is free and on a first-come, first-serve basis. Minimum age is 3 as of September 14. Maximum age is 6 as of September 14.
The Board of Supervisors will vote tonight on whether to allow retaining walls of this magnitude in Crozet and the other development areas.
Retaining Walls - Following on from our previously report in our February 14th issue: The Board of Supervisors will vote tonight on changing the zoning ordinance to increase the maximum height of retaining walls in the development areas.
While much higher retaining walls pose safety hazards in walkable communities, they also allow for greater housing density by pushing homes deeper into existing steep slopes. Expect to see this ordinance applied to the hill at the entrance of Western Ridge in front of Bright Beginnings Preschool when Montclair is built.
Would the Lorax in Dr. Seuss’ classic be called a NIMBY today??
