Bear Update It’s been two months since our first report on the rescued bears at the Wildlife Center of Virginia in Waynesboro. The two male bears are growing up, getting cuter, and apparently really enjoy wrestling each other. Click the picture below for a video!
Speaking of bears Consider joining the Wildlife Center’s upcoming book club and start reading Eight Bears, Mythic Past and Imperiled Future, one of the New Yorker’s best books of the year.
New Jobs at Northrop Grumman The defense contractor has broken ground on a new $200M facility behind the Pet Smart and Michael’s in Waynesboro. When finished, the project is expected to create 300 new local jobs in advanced electronics manufacturing and testing.

The More Things Change If you are an advocate for Crozet infrastructure, the first 20 minutes of this 2006 recording is a must listen. In it, Supervisor Dennis Rooker (Diantha McKeel’s predecessor) calls out the elephant in the room by asking whether the County would ever have the funding necessary to keep its infrastructure promises to Crozet.
It’s time for the County to revisit the “Rooker question” and publicly lay out a definitive plan to meet its infrastructure obligations to Crozet before moving forward with its AC44 comprehensive plan update.
Please share your thoughts with us in the poll below at the end of this week’s newsletter: How important of a first step is it for the Board of Supervisors to publicly discuss and acknowledge that it lacks a realistic plan to fund Crozet’s promised infrastructure projects (e.g. the Eastern Avenue Connector)?

WAHS News and Notes
Tennis
Both girls and boys' varsity squads continued their domination of district opponents, winning every match vs. Monticello and Charlottesville High School.
The boys followed up their in-district play with a hard-fought (5 matches to 4) win vs. Collegiate.
Baseball
This scrappy unit (8-2-1) stacked up district wins over Monticello 6-5 and Charlottesville 5-3. In those games, Aidan Carver-Woodson put on an offensive show, going 5-for-7 (.714), scoring 5 runs along with 5 stolen bases.
Lacrosse
The girls remain undefeated (6-0) by wiping out Deep Run 18-1.
WAHS Crew
Western rowers hauled in 14 gold medals at the North Carolina Rowing Championships in Highpoint.
Soccer
The boys pulled off a comeback victory over Charlottesville 3-2, then knocked off arch-rival Albemarle by the same score to remain undefeated on the season (9-0).
The girls wiped out Monticello 6-0, with Leah Raab and Sadie Bruton each scoring a pair of goals, but dropped a heartbreaker to Albemarle in double overtime 1-2. They’ll get another shot at the Patriots on May 16th.
Track & Field
Carter Torrence, usually a 400-meter specialist, tried her hand at the 100 and 200 meters at a district quad meet. She won both races, and her 100-meter time was the second-fastest posted by a Warrior since 2000. Not too shabby.
Congrats Carter Torrence!
At the Rufus Knight meet in Lynchburg, the Lady Warriors dominated at pole vault, taking 5 of the top 6 slots in the event and qualifying many of the vaulters for state competition
Crozet United’s Warrior of the Week is Aidan Carver-Woodson, who has dominated for the Warriors at the plate and in the field in recent key district victories.
