Around Town

Albemarle Budget Increases While Crozet Elementary Loses Foreign Language Program - Albemarle County Public Schools is proposing a $288.9 million operating budget for 2025-26, a 4.4% increase over last year. Yet, despite the growing budget, the division plans to cut the Foreign Language in Elementary Schools program, impacting students at Crozet Elementary and beyond.

The school board will hold a public hearing on Feb. 27 before finalizing the budget in March. If you have any comments you can contact our School Board representatives Ms. Spillman (At-large) at [email protected] and Dr. Berlin (White Hall District at [email protected].

Crozet Wineries Shine in the Virginia Governor’s Cup - The Virginia Governor's Cup is a top competition recognizing the best wines in the state. This year, over 600 wines were entered.

Veritas Vineyards & Winery particularly stood out with two gold medal wins - their 2022 Veritas Reserve and 2023 Monticello White were recognized for their quality and craftsmanship.

Crozet had a strong showing, with several local wineries taking home gold medal(s): Chiswell Farm and Winery, Fallen Tree Vineyard, Grace Estate Winery, King Family Vineyards, and Stinson Vineyards.

On March 13, the competition will announce the Governor’s Cup winner and the 12 wines selected for the Governor’s Case.

Crozet Artisan Depot Welcomes March 2025 Guest Artists - Crozet Artisan Depot is featuring ceramic artist Jessica Heavner and photographer Daniel James as Guest Artists for March 2025. Their exhibitions, "Earth to Art" and "Harvested Stories," will run the whole month of March at the historic Crozet train depot.

Jessica Heavner, inspired by nature and traditional crafts, creates functional, wheel-thrown ceramics designed to bring warmth and comfort. Daniel James’s photography captures the essence of local farms, highlighting the beauty of agrarian life through vibrant produce, heritage animals, and rustic tools.

Meet both artists on March 15 from 11 AM-1 PM at Crozet Artisan Depot (5791 Three Notch’d Rd).

Crozet United is here not only to keep you informed, but it is also your platform to celebrate Crozet and the people in it.

On The Lighter Side

Morton’s Frozen Foods, relocated to Crozet in 1953 (now the Music Today building), was once Albemarle County’s largest employer. They pioneered a frozen food product that revolutionized at-home eating in the 1950s. What was it?
